It’s no surprise that some of the country’s best skate shops are also some of the oldest. Opened in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood, Uprise has been holding it down for Windy City skateboarding since 1997. Since that year, Uprise has stayed true to the shop’s roots—100% Mid-Western Skateboarding. “The best thing about being a skateboarder in Chicago is being able to skate where ever you want when ever you want, as long as it's summer. Uprise is the epicenter of skateboarding for Chicago. Uprise has created many opportunities for skaters to have a fun, safe places to ride, by being persistent and patient with the city and park district. This has helped bring more skateparks and spots to the city. As a shop, we try to keep the skate community stoked, by hosting skate jams, music events, sponsoring demos, contests, and even throwin' down a bar-b-que here and there.” —Uprise’s Stevie Dread, Mike Ruta, and Justin Brzozowski |
